    Lighters tend to either have a photography or painting/drawing background. I fall into the later.

    I prefer digital painting now using Corel Painter, but in the past a pencil always served me well. I don't get as much time to paint now with family and work, but check back, I'm bound to add something new at some point.

  • About Me

    I am a lead lighter at Dreamworks Animation. I'm often asked what a lighter does. It's similar to a real set, where you place lights to capture the mood of the scene and to help tell the story. The main difference is I work in a virtual world, which offers more freedom, but also requires I build all light in the scene. I like to think of it as painting, where I'm adding color and value to a drawing.

    M.S. in Visualization Sciences, Texas A&M University, 2008. Thesis: Watercolor Simulation using the Lattice Boltzmann Equation for Fluid Simulation on the GPU.
